Salary: USD 150,000 - 185,000 / annual
Kodiak Robotics is a leader in autonomous ground transportation, developing AI-powered technology for commercial trucking and the public sector. The company delivers freight daily using autonomous technology and became the first to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi-truck to a customer in 2024. Kodiak is also developing autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in FEA analysis and testing to join our hardware development team in Mountain View, CA.
In this role, you will:
- Perform assembly-level mechanical FEA simulations in ANSYS, including non-linear static and dynamic analyses such as modal, shock, and random vibration
- Identify potential failure modes and provide actionable design guidance to cross-functional teams
- Create and present analysis reports to engineering and product teams
- Conduct or supervise testing and correlate experimental data to FEA models
- Write test procedures for both internal and external use
- Develop custom fixtures for testing and support maintenance of test equipment
- Support root-cause analysis of field issues
- Manage relationships with testing facilities, suppliers, and external partners
- Occasional travel required to conduct or supervise testing
Requirements:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience) with 3+ years of experience analyzing mechanical systems with FEA in automotive, aerospace, or related industries
- Strong FEA expertise with ANSYS and/or SolidWorks, with solid fundamentals in solid mechanics, structural dynamics, and materials science
- Strong CAD experience with SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, and/or Creo
- Experience with data acquisition systems including accelerometers, thermocouples, and strain gauges
- Bonus: thermal and/or CFD simulation skills
