Salary: USD 170,000 - 210,000 / annual

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will own critical mechanical subsystems on the robotic platform, taking them from concept through design, analysis, prototyping, validation, and into production. This is a hands-on role on a small, senior hardware team where you will design, build, and test your own work, staying with it through manufacturing bring-up and field deployment. Key responsibilities include: - Own mechanical subsystem design from concept through production release, balancing subsystem requirements against system-level constraints - Perform analysis and validation using FEA, kinematics, dynamics, and tolerance analysis; build and test prototypes - Design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost; select components and processes with volume cost understanding - Work with supply chain, contract manufacturers, and suppliers on fixtures, assembly processes, NPI, and production documentation (CAD, drawings, BOMs, specifications) - Partner cross-functionally with Electrical, Firmware, Controls, Product, and Operations teams - Provide mechanical engineering support for manufacturing and field issues; troubleshoot and drive defects to root cause - Generate new concepts, write invention disclosures, and build rapid prototypes - Travel as needed for supplier and contract manufacturer engagements, including international travel Requirements: - BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience - 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design engineering experience on large-scale electromechanical devices - Track record of owning mechanical subsystems through full product development lifecycle: design, implementation, debugging, verification, qualification, and manufacturing transfer - Strong SolidWorks skills with solid understanding of statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, stress analysis (FEA), and tolerance analysis - Demonstrated knowledge of component manufacturing processes: injection molding, sheet metal, weldments, CNC machining, surface finishes, painting/powder coating - Hands-on prototyping, instrumentation, characterization, and testing experience; comfort in lab and factory floor - Comfortable working with Electrical, Firmware, and Controls engineers; understanding of mechanical design within electromechanical systems - Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical partners - Pragmatic judgment on tradeoffs with limited data; ability to avoid analysis paralysis - High standards for craftsmanship and how products look, sound, and feel - Self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and able to pivot in fast-moving startup environment - Nice to have: high-volume consumer electronics product development experience; familiarity with design of experiments and statistical methods Location: Fully on-site from NYC office OR based in greater Boston area with ability to travel to NYC office regularly.
