Salary: USD 115,200 - 158,400 / annual

Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for missions ranging from interplanetary exploration to national security and defense. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions and builds everything from complete spacecraft and precision payloads to components like solar panels, flight software, star trackers, optical systems, separation systems, and radios. The Senior Mechanical Development & Test Engineer I, based in Long Beach, CA, is responsible for the end-to-end design, build, test, and execution of complex internal test capabilities. This includes test setups for qualification and high-volume acceptance tests requiring significant automation. Hardware tests may involve avionics boxes, complex mechanisms, and fully integrated spacecraft in stressing environments. Key responsibilities include: - Leading qualification test campaigns - Developing and implementing high-volume acceptance test infrastructure for production floor insertion - Advising on in-house test capabilities, limits, and future needs - Managing test projects end-to-end, including resourcing, scheduling, and budgeting - Hands-on implementation and validation of test infrastructure - Collaborating with design and test engineers to iterate through design concepts and determine test requirements - Designing complex Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) to support test implementation Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline - 5+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry - Experience using NX Nastran, NX CAD, and Teamcenter packages - Experience in component and system-level environmental testing - Experience with test automation and post-test data analysis Nice-to-have qualifications: - Master's or PhD in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline
