Salary: CAD 90,000 - 110,000 / annual
Voltera is a rapidly scaling, profitable Canadian tech company transforming the additive electronics industry since 2013. The company serves customers across 92 countries with products that enable fast iteration of circuit board designs and precision dispensing of functional materials for flexible hybrid electronics prototyping and materials research.
As Senior Mechanical Designer, you will own mechanical design of parts, assemblies, and subsystems from concept through production release. Your responsibilities include translating product needs into mechanical requirements for performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability; developing detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs with clear design intent; and applying GD&T, datum schemes, fits, and tolerance stack-ups to ensure parts function correctly and can be manufactured and inspected.
You will select materials, manufacturing processes, finishes, and standard components appropriate for performance, cost, and production volume. Design for manufacturing and assembly is critical—you'll account for tooling access, assembly sequence, fastening, alignment, and inspection. You will build and test prototypes to validate designs, identify failure modes, and resolve mechanical issues. Working directly with suppliers, you'll review manufacturability, resolve drawing questions, and qualify parts. You'll support first articles, pilot builds, production launch, and ongoing manufacturing, partnering with production teams to improve assembly methods, resolve fit and quality issues, and reduce rework.
Design change management through controlled drawing, BOM, and revision updates is part of your workflow. You'll collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to resolve integration constraints, contribute to design reviews, and mentor other engineers on mechanical design, tolerancing, and manufacturing practices. Documentation of design decisions, calculations, test results, and production requirements is essential.
Working conditions: in-office in Waterloo at least three days per week, with flexible work hours. The role offers three weeks' vacation to start plus a paid end-of-year company shutdown, family-friendly culture, and a collaborative environment in Waterloo's growing tech hub.
