Mach Industries, founded in 2023, is a rapidly growing defense technology company with ~350 employees focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. The company operates with startup agility while delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems for the United States and its allies.
You will lead the design, analysis, test, and verification of mechanical and electromechanical systems for next-generation defense platforms. This is a hands-on role where you own structural engineering efforts from requirements derivation through conceptual design to production, including analysis, fabrication, testing, and validation while optimizing for manufacturing, assembly, mass, cost, and cross-discipline requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own mechanical design and development of system-level hardware from early CAD concepts through functional prototypes to mass production
- Lead hands-on testing, from vehicle-level qualification and design validation to subscale and coupon-based testing driving design iteration
- Drive manufacturability, part selection, and tolerance stack-up decisions (GD&T) for scalable production
- Apply mechanical fundamentals (structural, thermal, materials) and first-order sizing to inform robust, lightweight designs
- Design fixtures and tooling for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, qualification, and testing of aerospace assemblies
- Author test plans, technical documentation, and engineering milestones for cross-team and leadership review
- Perform analytical modeling and simulation (FEA) to evaluate mechanical system performance and guide design decisions
- Support critical development and test milestones, including occasional extended hours and weekends
- Help establish structural engineering practices, mentor other engineers, and accelerate hardware development across the program
- Own assembly and product-level data packages including engineering drawings, GD&T, and analysis/test output
You will work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to drive technical decisions, resolve complex integration challenges, and ensure structural designs are supported by test and analysis throughout the entire hardware development cycle.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on designing and prototyping mechanical systems
- Strong 3D modeling skills with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, etc.) including expertise in drafting and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Ownership of hands-on, end-to-end hardware development efforts for flight or production hardware
- Experience integrating mechanical systems with sensors, actuators, and embedded control hardware
- Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- ITAR eligibility required: must be U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from U.S. Department of State
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience designing with lightweight materials, composites, or additive manufacturing techniques
- Experience with configuration management and change management best practices for aerospace systems
- Experience with structural sizing through first-order hand calculations, FEA (Nastran), or multi-physics software packages
- Experience supporting test at coupon, subscale, or assembly level for development and qualification campaigns
- Experience designing for cross-discipline impact including aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermal management
- Experience with programming languages (Python, MATLAB, C++) for analytical modeling, simulation, and engineering problem-solving
