Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Stage Manufacturing team turns design into reality, owning the build of Terran R's primary structures through large-scale CNC machining operations.
In this role, you will share ownership of operations on large 3-axis mills (20'x8'), 5-axis mills (20'x8'), and a vertical turning lathe (20' diameter). You'll help introduce new products to these machines and improve current high-volume work. You'll collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, as well as internal production teams and external vendors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating work instructions, specifications, and best practices across high-fidelity machining processes
- Standardizing processes across the manufacturing team
- Establishing new machining work centers by championing tooling and process definition for Terran R parts
- Supporting the shop floor through live issue resolution and providing upstream feedback on manufacturing innovation
- Providing Design for Manufacturing feedback to structures teams during development, prototype, and flight build phases
- Collaborating with diverse engineering teams to drive progress and solve manufacturing challenges
This is an opportunity to work on a tangible, high-momentum project where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. You'll help build not just a rocket, but the factory and processes to scale launch manufacturing.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 4+ years of progressive, related manufacturing engineering experience
- 3D & 2D design/drafting skills per ASME Y14.5M (NX preferred)
- Direct experience with CNC milling and turning operations across multiple materials
- Understanding of machine programming (G-code) and machine set-up
- Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, process improvement/factory design, fastening and joining, and machining
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved manufacturability
NICE TO HAVES:
- Extensive experience with CNC milling, turning, and drilling operations across multiple materials
- Aluminum experience and large parts >6' preferred
- Extensive experience designing work holding for complicated machining operations
- New product introduction of aerospace hardware systems into manufacturing, test, and production systems with proven success
- Experience managing projects in fast-paced environments
