Relativity Space is building the Terran R rocket to deliver payloads to orbit and advance commercial spaceflight. The Stage Manufacturing team owns the build of Terran R's primary structures, turning design into reality through advanced manufacturing processes including 3D printing and traditional assembly methods.
In this role, you will be a key technical leader on the manufacturing floor, bridging design and production. You'll provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to structures teams during development, prototype builds, and flight production. You'll work closely with design engineers, manufacturing specialists, reliability engineers, production teams, and external vendors to solve complex assembly challenges in real time.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide DFM feedback during development phase and through prototype and flight builds
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to drive progress
- Cover shop floor operations for primary structure work center assembly, clearing barriers and keeping production moving
- Champion process improvements across multiple work centers, incorporating learnings from early Terran R builds
- Create work instructions, specifications, and best practices; standardize processes across the manufacturing team
- Make risk decisions regularly to disposition issues during build and maintain production momentum
You'll be part of a team solving problems that haven't been solved before, with autonomy and ownership at every level. The role offers the opportunity to shape how Relativity builds rockets at scale, applying automation, machine learning, and advanced technologies as the vehicle and factory evolve.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 5+ years of progressive, related manufacturing or aerospace engineering experience
- Strong history supporting complicated assembly builds with proven ability to make risk decisions and disposition issues during production
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand constraints and provide design inputs for manufacturability
- Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, process improvement/factory design, fastening and joining, and machining
- Expert knowledge of drilling and trim operations, manufacturing processes, tools, inspection methods, and GD&T
**Nice to have:**
- Direct experience with forming, welding, drill, trim, and fastening operations for aerospace products
- New product introduction experience for aerospace hardware systems into manufacturing, test, and production environments
- Project management experience in fast-paced environments
