LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Manager of Product Security to lead the Product Security team and partner with the Director of Security. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will own how Security operates across the organization—building a risk-driven program where engineering teams own their security health, Security informs and validates rather than gatekeeps, and automation and AI handle the first pass on findings. You will establish a model where security posture is measured and published to executives quarterly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage a team of security engineers, overseeing portfolio prioritization and resource allocation
- Transform the security operating model from audit-calendar-driven to risk-driven, clarifying ownership boundaries between Security and engineering teams
- Guide product engineering teams in owning their security health: route findings with mapped severity to teams, validate their fixes, and embed security metrics into service reviews
- Own the intake, triage, and routing of security findings and requests, driving automation to reduce noise and human decision-making
- Serve as incident manager of record for security incidents, managing escalations and service-level commitments
- Hold delegated approval authority for vendor and access decisions
- Cover operational duties for the Director during audits, board cycles, and time off
- Publish security posture monthly to engineering teams and quarterly to executives; maintain a risk register that drives priorities
- Work closely with every engineering team to make the secure path the easy path
Requirements:
- Proven experience leading a security team through transformation away from a gatekeeper model; ability to articulate what teams owned afterward, what Security stopped doing, and measurable outcomes
- Risk-based thinking: prioritize by risk rather than control checklists; comfortable defending priority decisions over compliance lists
- Treat automation and AI as first responders, with yourself as the escalation path
- Experience as a second leader to a Director or CISO; know which decisions to make in their name
- End-to-end security incident management experience, including communications and post-incident review
- Strong technical foundation: former Senior or Staff security engineer who can still read PRs, threat models, and cloud findings and make informed calls
- Track and drive security metrics; understand their limitations and proper interpretation
- Thoughtful, empathetic approach to leadership and collaboration
