ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Manager for Platform Engineering to lead a team of 6–10 engineers building and operating core cloud-native platform services. This is a player-coach role combining hands-on technical leadership with people management and strategic delivery ownership. Key Responsibilities: - Lead, hire, onboard, and develop a team of software engineers; own performance management and career growth for all team members - Own end-to-end delivery for the team's domain: set priorities and roadmap with product and platform leadership, manage scope and sequencing trade-offs, and ensure predictable delivery from design through production - Establish and maintain reliability standards: define SLOs, on-call practices, and operational reviews; drive down incidents and toil across hyperscaler, on-premises, and sovereign cloud environments - Partner with principal engineers, peer managers, and dependent teams to align work with broader platform architecture and standards - Remain hands-on as a player-coach: review designs and code, participate in architectural decisions, and occasionally contribute code to set technical standards - Build a healthy, high-trust engineering culture with clear expectations, honest feedback, and inclusive practices - Communicate status, risks, and trade-offs to leadership and stakeholders; represent the team in planning and capacity conversations The role focuses on Kubernetes, hyperscaler platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and distributed systems. There is an emphasis on integrating AI into engineering and platform operations—whether through AI-powered tooling adoption, operational automation, agentic systems for fleet visibility, or rethinking team staffing and processes in light of AI capabilities. Requirements: - 10+ years building production software with substantial hands-on experience operating distributed systems and running workloads on Kubernetes - 5+ years managing software engineers with a proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers and delivering as a team - Demonstrated success leading teams to deliver complex, business-critical systems or services end-to-end from design through production operation - Hands-on experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including core compute, networking, and IAM primitives - Strong working knowledge of containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps-based delivery, and infrastructure-as-code; ability to review designs, challenge assumptions, and make sound technical trade-offs - Experience leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into engineering and platform work (AI-powered tooling, operational automation, agentic systems, or AI's impact on team staffing and operations) - Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills; ability to explain technical risks and trade-offs to both engineers and senior leadership
