True Anomaly builds autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for U.S. national security. As Senior Manager of Digital Engineering, you will own the digital thread—the authoritative, traceable flow of product data across the entire spacecraft lifecycle—connecting today's fragmented engineering and business systems (PLM, requirements/ALM, MBSE, ERP) into a unified platform. This is a founding, hands-on leadership role where you will personally build core platform services and integrations while hiring and growing a software engineering team from early-career to staff level. Your responsibilities span team leadership, hands-on technical contribution, strategy and program ownership, cross-functional partnership, and technical oversight. You will hire, coach, and develop direct reports; write production code for the platform's core services while the team is small; establish architecture and engineering patterns; deliberately hand off work as the team grows; define the digital thread roadmap and make build-vs-buy decisions; balance new capability against operational support; run delivery with predictable release cadence; partner with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, IT, Platform Engineering, and Cybersecurity to embed the digital thread into product design and manufacturing workflows; and ensure observability, auditability, and compliance (CUI/ITAR) are built into the platform. This role demands a builder who leads—an engineer who has never stopped shipping and is energized by developing people and standing up a high-performing function from scratch. It is not a fit for a pure people-manager years out of code, nor for a senior IC unwilling to build and grow a team. The work operates in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment supporting national security space operations, with occasional after-hours on-call participation and travel to other company sites as needed. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years directly managing software engineering teams (hiring, performance management, career development) - 8+ years total software engineering or related technical experience, with substantial recent time as hands-on individual contributor; must have built production systems - Current coding proficiency in at least one modern language (e.g., Go, Python); able to contribute production-quality code, prototype hard problems, and lead code review credibly - Track record shipping software products or platforms to production on predictable cadence - Demonstrated experience building or maturing: software platforms, in-house enterprise applications/systems of record, system-integration programs, or workflow automation - Strong understanding of cloud and enterprise technologies, API and integration patterns, data modeling, and keeping data consistent across systems of record - Proven ability to translate business priorities into technical strategy and communicate across all organizational levels - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills - U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. Person) as required under ITAR - Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance PREFERRED: - Experience managing teams in startup or Series C–E high-growth environment - Experience standing up new team or function from ground up - Experience leading migration from off-the-shelf enterprise system to in-house software - Familiarity with PLM, MBSE, requirements/ALM, ERP, MES systems and product data flow across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing - Background in aerospace, defense, hardware, or other regulated, product-data-intensive environment - Experience with digital engineering/digital thread initiatives - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
