Velo3D is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development of machine learning models that predict the printability of complex part geometry for their metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) platform. This is a foundational role in a growing ML initiative within a hardware-software integrated manufacturing company.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build a printability prediction model: Collaborate with process, preprint, and applications teams to develop ML models using image data, thermal data, simulation outputs, and other sensor inputs to predict whether complex CAD models can be successfully printed.
• Define data collection and infrastructure: Design, develop, and maintain structured and unstructured databases that support data ingestion, storage, and retrieval from diverse data streams across the manufacturing operation.
• Deploy to production: Work with the preprint team to operationalize developed models into the production software stack.
About Velo3D:
Velo3D manufactures the Sapphire metal additive manufacturing printer, which enables on-demand production of titanium, inconel, and aluminum parts with high design freedom and quality control. The company provides an integrated hardware-software solution including Flow (print preparation software), Assure (quality assurance system), and Intelligent Fusion (manufacturing process control). The team is distributed across engineering, manufacturing, and software disciplines.
Requirements:
Required:
• Demonstrated experience with machine learning pipelines, particularly on geometric or 3D data
• Experience working in a production software engineering environment
• Strong programming skills in Python or C++
Preferred:
• Background in powder bed fusion or metal additive manufacturing
• Knowledge of manufacturing data workflows, IoT sensor data, or industrial automation systems
