BVNK is a next-generation payments platform bridging traditional and digital finance, enabling businesses to send and receive payments across major schemes and blockchain networks, with settlement in over 30 markets. The company recently raised Series A funding and operates across the UK, Europe, South Africa, and APAC. You will serve as a deeply embedded strategic legal advisor across all BVNK teams—Product, Engineering, Compliance, Regulatory, Banking, Marketing, Finance, and HR—working closely with global counterparts including Mastercard legal teams. Your responsibilities include: • Advising on financial services requirements, payments law, outsourcing, data privacy, intellectual property, employment law, financial crime matters, disputes, litigation, and corporate governance across global operations (UK, EU, South Africa, Singapore, San Francisco). • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements including service contracts, outsourcing agreements, SaaS agreements, and complex transaction documentation. • Reviewing marketing materials for legal and regulatory compliance, IP protection, necessary disclosures, risk mitigation, and alignment with company policies. • Assessing legal risks, proposing innovative solutions, and constructively challenging business decisions from a legal perspective. • Supporting the legal team and Mastercard legal counterparts on global business-as-usual activities and legal operations. • Conducting legal research on cryptocurrency, payments, and relevant regulatory areas; anticipating legal and commercial risks and preparing the business accordingly. • Demonstrating strong understanding of cryptocurrency and fintech legal frameworks, or genuine interest in learning about blockchain technology. You will help shape and build new products, identify and consult on legal risks in product development, and lead drafting and negotiations on market-leading partnerships and embedded propositions. Benefits include competitive salary, meaningful equity ownership through an employee option scheme, flexible working hours with hybrid work at its core, flexible holiday policy, opportunities to travel to offices worldwide (London, Cape Town), and an open, creative environment. **Requirements:** • 7+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an in-house legal team, top law firm, and/or government agency. • Familiarity with UK and EU financial services laws and regulations, including payments and ideally blockchain and digital assets. • Strong and extensive experience negotiating and drafting agreements with customers, partners, and suppliers, including complex payment services-related agreements. • Experience with intra-group matters such as intra-group outsourcing and corporate law advice. Experience with corporate governance, employment matters, disputes, and litigation is ideal but not mandatory. • Highly collaborative, inquisitive, and solutions-oriented mindset, ideally with prior experience advising on product development at fast-moving technology companies. • Bias toward action and impact; willingness to roll up sleeves and get things done. • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to build strong relationships and simplify legal concepts for non-legal audiences. • Genuine curiosity, passion for work, and comfort in fast-paced environments. • Humility with low ego, strong desire to grow and learn, and deep commitment to teammates.
