Bumble is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for Product to serve as a strategic legal advisor to product, engineering, AI/ML, design, and trust & safety teams. This role focuses on guiding responsible product development throughout the entire lifecycle—from early design through launch and iteration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as one of two primary legal advisors to product and engineering teams, providing guidance from initial design through launch and ongoing iteration
- Advise on emerging product areas with particular focus on generative AI, online safety, content acquisition, IP/copyright, open source, and privacy
- Collaborate across Legal, Privacy, AI/ML, Compliance, and InfoSec to deliver actionable legal advice that balances innovation with risk management
- Implement scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times
- Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and online safety regulations
- Serve as legal project manager, coordinating input across teams to deliver integrated feedback to product teams
- Promote privacy-by-design, safety-by-design, transparency, and member-first principles in new and existing products
- Partner with product, policy, trust & safety, and engineering teams on responsible product development and risk assessments
- Support trust and safety escalations and transparency reporting
- Create playbooks, checklists, and scalable legal tools to support agile development
- Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders and communicate complex legal concepts clearly

Requirements:
- J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing in the UK/EU
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including in-house at a U.S.-based global tech company or top-tier law firm advising high-growth technology businesses
- Proven expertise advising product teams in privacy law, platform liability, and consumer protection
- Strong working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, UK DPA)
- Strong working knowledge of online safety laws (age verification laws, Digital Services Act, Online Safety Act)
- Demonstrated experience coordinating across multiple legal disciplines for end-to-end regulatory and compliance coverage
- Product mindset with ability to embed legal solutions into design processes, UX, and system architecture
- Track record of influencing without authority, managing complex cross-functional projects, and supporting innovation at scale
- Strong process orientation and focus on efficiency and clarity
- Commitment to Bumble's mission and passion for building technologies that support healthy online experiences
- Must be based in Austin or New York
