The company is based in Austin, TX and is rapidly growing as it works to deploy the world's first fleet of advanced microreactors. You will develop the measurement, control, and automation systems that support Aalo's experimental hardware, software, and reactor development. This hands-on role owns instrumentation and controls (I&C) for component, subsystem, and integrated-system testing, from benchtop setups to automated test stands. You will work cross-functionally with test, electrical, software, mechanical, and systems engineers, as well as manufacturing, operations, and EHS teams. Key responsibilities include: - Translate test objectives and operating conditions into measurement and control requirements, including sensor ranges, accuracy, response time, sampling, and data-recording needs - Develop test methods and write test procedures that map engineering requirements to measurable acceptance criteria - Select and integrate sensors, signal conditioning, embedded instrumentation, and data acquisition for temperature, pressure, flow, strain, vibration, position, voltage, current, and other parameters - Design and document instrument layouts, I/O assignments, wiring, and interfaces; coordinate with engineering and fabrication teams - Develop PLC logic, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), control sequences, and test automation; configure and tune control loops - Implement alarms, permissives, interlocks, and shutdown behavior defined through operating requirements and hazard reviews - Plan and execute commissioning and factory/site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) of test-system hardware and software - Use simulation, modeled inputs, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) methods to verify control sequences and responses to abnormal conditions - Build reliable data-acquisition and logging workflows with proper timestamps, channel identification, units, and configuration records - Troubleshoot sensors, wiring, signal noise, industrial networks, communications, control behavior, and acquisition problems - Support test execution and data interpretation; evaluate measurement uncertainty and recommend improvements - Maintain requirements, schematics, I/O lists, software revisions, calibration records, and test results - Develop reusable instrumentation and automation approaches to improve test throughput Requirements: - Degree in an engineering discipline such as electrical, nuclear, control systems engineering, or a related field - At least five years of relevant, hands-on engineering experience with instrumentation, controls, automation, or integrated test systems - Practical experience selecting and integrating sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition for physical experiments or industrial equipment - Hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and control-loop tuning - Familiarity with data-acquisition hardware, industrial networks, and test automation frameworks - Experience commissioning, troubleshooting, and test support in laboratories and development facilities, following applicable safety procedures - Based in the United States and willing to work on-site in Austin, TX - Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person in compliance with 10 CFR Part 810
