As a Senior Geospatial Software Engineer, you will help build and run the geospatial data platform behind ICEYE's analytics products. The platform ingests elevation, hydrology, building, and satellite imagery data from public and commercial providers and serves it through APIs used across the company. Your work directly shapes what other teams can rely on.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Pipeline Development: Build and maintain production pipelines that collect data from external providers, process it, and load it into spatial databases using established ingest patterns and adding new sources.
- Pipeline Operations: Own pipelines in production, respond to failures, and adapt ingestion when upstream providers change their schemas, formats, or access rules.
- Data Delivery: Develop and operate REST and STAC APIs that serve data to internal and external consumers with stable contracts and predictable performance.
- Geospatial Processing: Process large raster and vector datasets at scale, covering reprojection, mosaicking, tiling, format conversion, and quality validation.
- Engineering Quality: Improve automated testing, CI/CD, and data quality monitoring to keep releases safe and repeatable.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Work directly with stakeholders to agree on requirements, explain data coverage and limitations, and write specifications and decision records.
You will report to the Solutions Data Platform Team Lead within the Product Engineering, Solutions department. The role is permanent and hybrid, based in Espoo, Finland, with relocation required. Employment is subject to applicable security screening including SUPO where required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must haves:
- 5+ years of Python in production with deep knowledge of spatial indexing, coordinate reference systems, vertical datums, and large-scale raster/vector processing trade-offs
- Strong PostgreSQL/PostGIS skills: schema design, partitioning, query tuning, and safe migrations on large live datasets
- Experience running production pipelines on an orchestration framework (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect) designed to fail loudly and recover cleanly
- Experience building and operating HTTP services in Python with a modern async framework and ORM, with stable versioned contracts
- Confidence extending complex Python codebases with testable, production-grade code
- Comfort with containers, CI/CD, cloud storage/messaging, and Kubernetes
- Expert, pragmatic use of AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) to speed up routine engineering
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Geodesy, Remote Sensing, or related field, or equivalent depth from real-world experience
Nice to haves:
- Experience with satellite imagery
- Familiarity with STAC, OGC API standards, or Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF
- Experience integrating with public-sector or government data APIs
- Data quality and observability tooling (e.g., dbt or OpenTelemetry)
- Infrastructure-as-code and GitOps experience
