Synapticon is building motion control and actuator technology for next-generation humanoid robots. As Senior Functional Safety Engineer, you will own the functional safety systems and tooling for Positron, a PLe/SIL3-rated safety architecture designed specifically for humanoid robotics—one of the first such systems built for this domain rather than adapted from industrial robot arms.
You will take full ownership of several critical areas:
**Core Responsibilities:**
- Own and continuously evolve synchronization between requirement files and the ALM system, making architectural decisions that keep the system robust as the product line scales
- Design and drive CI checks that enforce safety evidence rather than merely describing it—ensuring traceability from requirements to tests and establishing coverage figures that can be relied upon
- Take full ownership of automation around review and release workflows, treating these as support tools under the standard with appropriate tool-qualification thinking, and drive improvements to team processes
- Lead responses to external assessor review protocols, coordinating directly with assessors and internal stakeholders to track document versions and close open points
- Drive authoring and refinement of requirements across product, system, and unit tiers; own traceability and gap registers; keep requirements and architecture diagrams consistent; guide less experienced colleagues
You will work in a warm, international team with flat hierarchies, short decision-making paths, and open communication. The role offers creative freedom, hybrid work flexibility, and the opportunity to make real impact on safety-critical robotics systems.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in robotics functional safety, including taking at least one robotics safety project end-to-end from concept through development to certification
- Proven, independent command of safety development lifecycles and workflows across multiple projects
- Must-have: hands-on experience with at least one of IEC 61508, ISO 10218, or ISO 13849
- Strong grounding in FMEA, diagnostic coverage, and failure-rate budgeting, with independent judgment in application
- Extensive experience with ALM or requirements tools (Polarion, codebeamer, Jama, DOORS, or equivalent), including tool qualification
- Real, hands-on experience working with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent)—be prepared to discuss what you built, where it failed, how you discovered it, and how you would coach others
