Airbnb's Quality Engineering team builds tools and systems to help engineers create high-quality software efficiently. The team owns product test cases, automation coverage, test automation tools, environments, and frameworks, and works to identify weak spots in Airbnb's massive codebase to design testable, fault-tolerant systems.
As a Senior Fullstack Software Engineer on the Quality Platform team, you will be a leader in leveraging AI to redefine and accelerate quality engineering at Airbnb. You will build and evolve comprehensive automation coverage for features and releases, working directly with product engineering teams to develop and maintain test tools, write and test product code, and participate in design reviews to architect testable systems. You will guide designs and code to enhance modularity and testability, working across technologies and codebases while excelling at navigating ambiguity and implementing best-in-class solutions.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Leading implementation of test automation strategy covering the entire testing pyramid (unit, service, integration, end-to-end testing) to verify feature functionality for customer use cases
- Building, maintaining, and ensuring effective utilization of automated tests in collaboration with engineering teams to achieve robust test coverage for features and releases
- Improving existing automation frameworks to support new functionalities and optimize quality and efficiency
- Collaborating with CI/CD teams to integrate automated testing into pipelines, ensuring thorough coverage at every development stage
- Troubleshooting and isolating issues, verifying bug fixes, and debugging issues found during testing and after release
- Contributing to a high-performance team committed to code quality and operational excellence
- Working closely with cross-functional teams including product management, development, and other QE teams in a fast-paced environment with short release cycles
Requirements:
- 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering and testing
- Demonstrable knowledge in at least one web development language (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript) and comfort working in a backend language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, Go)
- Strong knowledge of test automation methodologies, tools, and frameworks
- Strong hands-on experience with automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress)
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Buildkite, Spinnaker, Jenkins) and version control systems (Git)
- Experience using quality signals such as coverage, flaky test rate, suite execution time, and escaped defects to prioritize work and demonstrate impact
- Excellent communication skills for facilitating interactions with cross-functional teams
- Expertise developing solutions to ambiguous problems and integrations across multiple teams with significant impact
- Curiosity about applying AI/LLMs to testing and developer productivity
- Comfortable collaborating in English
- Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent
