Pivotal Health is a technology platform helping healthcare providers navigate complex reimbursement landscapes and dispute underpaid claims through an AI-driven, full-service solution. The company combines software, data, and service to simplify reimbursement workflows and reduce administrative burden on providers. You will join the product platform team, which serves as the foundational layer that other product teams build upon. This includes identity and access management (customer SSO, invitations, sessions), organization and tenancy models, shared services and APIs, and developer experience tooling. The platform scope expands as product teams identify capabilities that should be built once—upcoming priorities include role-based access control, email infrastructure, ML model production pipelines, and data ingestion. In this role, you will own platform components end to end: design, build, and operate services, libraries, and schemas from conception through production. You'll make architectural decisions that balance scalability, reliability, security, and performance as the business grows. Key responsibilities include designing composable abstractions and well-defined interfaces so product teams can extend the platform independently; contributing to system interaction and data flow design; building monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and testing infrastructure that surface meaningful signal; identifying repeating patterns and making them composable through better abstractions or tooling; and partnering closely with product, data, and infrastructure teams to unblock delivery. You should think deeply about systems, explain why solutions work as well as how to build them, and be comfortable owning reliability and evolution of your components. You'll work in a collaborative, low-ego environment on a mission to make healthcare reimbursement fairer. The company is based in Los Angeles and New York, with flexibility on remote and hybrid arrangements varying by role. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience in fullstack, backend, or platform software engineering - Strong software engineering foundation with solid coding skills; Python preferred - Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native systems; GCP preferred - Experience with relational databases and data modeling, including schema evolution in production - Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis, or similar) - Ability to move between domains (authorization, messaging infrastructure, data pipelines) without prior familiarity - Strong product instincts: judge systems by usefulness and correctness - Proactive approach to understanding customer needs before building - Self-directed and comfortable in greenfield environments with evolving requirements - Low-ego, collaborative, direct, and open to feedback EXTRA CREDIT: - Identity and access systems (OIDC, SAML, SSO, sessions) or authorization models (RBAC) - Transactional email or messaging infrastructure - Data ingestion pipelines or ML model production tooling - Internal libraries, SDKs, or developer tooling adopted by other teams - Automation or AI-assisted tooling that reduced operational toil - TypeScript and React - Startup or early-stage experience - FinTech, HealthTech, or regulated industry experience
