Nivoda is a digital marketplace operating system for the global jewellery industry, connecting diamond and gemstone suppliers with retailers across 70+ countries. The company powers over $300M in annual transactions in a $350B+ global industry still in early stages of digitization.
You'll join the Growth Pod, a small, high-ownership engineering team responsible for the entire customer journey from discovery through activation and retention. This role owns both backend systems and frontend experiences that convert new sign-ups into active, paying customers. You'll build event-driven, always-on backend services that track thousands of accounts through activation, slipping, winback, lapsed, and churned states in real time. You'll also create seamless frontend moments that educate customers and move them toward purchase.
Key responsibilities include:
**Core Funnel & Lifecycle Systems**: Own and evolve backend services for onboarding, verification, activation, and the sign-up-to-purchase funnel. Design event-driven, workflow-orchestrated systems that evaluate account state continuously and trigger actions automatically rather than relying on batch scripts.
**Identity, Risk & Trust**: Integrate with third-party identity verification, KYB/KYC, and fraud/risk providers. Handle credit and payment data responsibly with full awareness of the stakes when logic is subtly wrong.
**Experimentation & Analysis**: Design and run experiments properly with guardrail metrics. Write your own SQL and work directly in Snowflake to run cohort analysis, diagnose time-to-activation and churn, and solve funnel problems without waiting on a data team. Take on problems without established playbooks.
**Building with AI**: Use AI agents to accelerate building and testing funnel services. Use AI to draft and sanity-check analytical queries while owning full responsibility for verification. Evaluate AI-generated output critically before shipping.
Tech stack: TypeScript/Node.js backend, GraphQL API gateway, Nx monorepo, PostgreSQL (OLTP) → Snowflake (dbt-modeled), OpenSearch, AWS (EMR, Glue, Kubernetes), Keycloak/Okta auth, Jenkins CI/CD, Grafana observability.
The role expects you to bring judgement, not just code. You'll work closely with Product, Data, and Risk teams and have real say in solving problems that don't yet have a playbook. This isn't a role where you ship a spec and move on—you'll dig into data yourself to understand what's actually going wrong when conversion isn't where it should be.
**Requirements**:
- 4–7 years of experience
- Strong backend product engineering experience in TypeScript/Node.js with real ownership of funnel-critical, production services
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration (workflow engines or event pipelines that evaluate state continuously and trigger actions)
- Genuine experimentation rigor: you've designed experiments properly, understand guardrail metrics, and know when a result is real versus noise
- Strong SQL and warehouse fluency (Snowflake or similar) with confidence to do your own cohort and funnel analysis
- Comfort using AI agents to build, test software, and draft analytical work, paired with judgement to catch subtle errors in AI output
- High tolerance for ambiguity; energised by problems without established playbooks
- Practical fluency evaluating AI-generated output (copy, messaging, root causes) for fitness before shipping
**Nice to have**:
- Direct experience integrating with identity verification, KYB/KYC, or fraud/risk providers
- Fintech-adjacent experience handling credit, payment, or sensitive financial data
- Experience in high-growth marketplace or fintech with similar account lifecycle complexity
- Familiarity with Temporal, AWS Step Functions, Kafka, or similar orchestration/event-streaming tools
