Salary: USD 191,000 - 253,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Software Engineer to join the Strategic Defense team. This team is at the forefront of developing AI-native offerings for integrated air and missile defense, architecting mission autonomy and resilient mesh architectures.
In this role, you will deploy and support Anduril's products globally, working early in product lifecycles and collaborating with engineering teams to iteratively improve systems. You will be both a technical problem-solver and a mentor, coaching teammates on systems you've mastered while continuously learning new ones. You'll guide military users through product employment and troubleshooting, advise account managers on operational structuring for technical success, and communicate product refinement recommendations to engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting military air defense projects through technical operations, field maintenance, customer support, and training
- Resolving complex issues spanning hardware, software, and networking in unstructured field environments
- Communicating field issue status to internal and customer teams
- Developing and implementing operational and logistical plans for various events
- Ensuring high availability and performance of air defense systems
- Maintaining hardware and software support plans
- Conducting incident response root-cause analyses (RCAs) for defense systems in the field
- Performing post-incident reviews and implementing preventive measures
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation
The role requires significant travel to the Asia Pacific region (up to 50% of the year, with deployments lasting up to one month at a time).
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Ability to travel to Asia Pacific region for up to one month at a time (up to 50% of the year)
- Strong engineering background from industry or academia in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
- Experience with multiple programming languages (Go, Rust, Python)
- Experience with frontend frameworks (React or Angular)
- Experience building software solutions involving significant data processing and analysis
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established codebases
- Desire to work on critical software with real-world impact
Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience solving complex problems in unstructured environments at the interface of hardware, software, and networking
- B.S. in Computer Science or related technical field
- Network+ and Linux+ certifications or equivalent experience
- Prior military or overseas contracting experience
- Experience with Kubernetes
