Legora is an AI-native legal workspace serving 1,000+ enterprise customers across 50+ countries, including top law firms like Cleary Gottlieb, Goodwin, and Linklaters. The company has scaled to $100M+ ARR and operates teams across Europe, North America, and APAC.
As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with Legora's largest enterprise customers to understand their needs and build software that connects Legora to their systems and workflows. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role within Enterprise Engineering, combining deep technical expertise with customer-facing communication and product judgment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work directly with enterprise customers to understand their systems, workflows, and constraints, translating needs into clear technical requirements
- Own engineering delivery end-to-end: discovery, solution design, implementation, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting
- Resolve ambiguity across customer stakeholders and internal teams, challenging assumptions and aligning people on realistic scope and timelines
- Build integrations between Legora and customer systems, alongside changes to core product; identify opportunities to turn customer-specific work into reusable capabilities
- Manage multiple engagements independently, sequencing work, identifying dependencies, and communicating risks early
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues where Legora meets a customer's environment, applying sound engineering judgment under time pressure
- Bring customer insights back into product and engineering decisions; help develop reusable tooling and practices as the function grows
You'll work closely with product engineers, Legal Engineers, and Engagement Managers, taking ownership of technical decisions and implementation. The role is based in Legora's Union Square office in NYC, requiring 5 days/week on-site.
Requirements:
- 5-7+ years of software engineering experience with recent, hands-on ownership of production software and clear responsibility for technical decisions and delivery
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: ability to independently design, build, test, and ship reliable software; work effectively in existing product codebases
- Comfortable leading technical conversations with customers; ability to explain decisions and tradeoffs clearly to both engineers and nontechnical stakeholders
- Experience taking ambiguous problems across multiple teams and turning them into working solutions; ability to articulate what you decided, built, and delivered
- Strong product judgment; understanding of the problem behind a request and ability to balance immediate customer needs with maintainability and broader product value
- Ability to prioritize and deliver without detailed direction; set realistic expectations, surface problems early, and take responsibility for outcomes
- Adaptable across technologies and environments; ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and make progress when requirements evolve
Nice to have:
- Experience building B2B enterprise software in a fast-moving environment
- Previous forward deployed or embedded engineering experience involving hands-on production development
- Experience working across engineering and product, particularly where you helped define what to build
- Familiarity with enterprise integrations, APIs, authentication, and data flows across systems you don't control
- TypeScript experience (used extensively, but strong engineers from other stacks welcome)
