Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy intelligent systems into real environments at scale.
As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer on the Bionic Enterprise team, you will embed with teams across Atoms to improve how the company operates using AI and software. You'll combine engineering expertise, product judgment, and hands-on problem-solving to take problems from discovery through deployment and measurable results.
Key responsibilities:
- Work directly with business teams to understand workflows, uncover bottlenecks, and identify where automation can save time, reduce errors, or improve decisions.
- Turn ambiguous problems into clear priorities using data and user conversations to define the problem, determine what's worth solving, and establish success metrics.
- Build and deploy applications, integrations, and AI-powered workflows using AI development tools while understanding and taking responsibility for shipped systems.
- Own delivery end-to-end: scope the first useful solution, connect necessary systems and data, test, deploy to users' hands, and iterate based on real usage.
- Drive adoption and measure outcomes by working alongside users until solutions become part of their workflow and deliver intended results.
- Turn successful solutions into reusable tools and capabilities by partnering with platform and engineering teams to make them reliable, maintainable, and useful across the business.
The role is based in Mountain View and San Francisco offices. All office-based teams work onsite five days per week.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience building and delivering software. Background may include software engineering, forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, founding a company, or hands-on technical consulting.
- Track record of taking initiative and getting useful things into production; ability to point to problems identified, solutions built, and outcomes achieved.
- Strong product and business judgment; ability to ask good questions, challenge assumptions, and distinguish worthwhile problems from interesting technical exercises.
- Practical engineering skills across applications, APIs, databases, and integrations; ability to make sound architecture decisions and work effectively in unfamiliar systems.
- Experience using AI coding tools to accelerate development, with ability to explain, debug, test, and maintain the code they produce.
- Comfort working with LLMs and AI-powered workflows, including deciding when simpler automation is the better solution.
- Strong sense of ownership and urgency; ability to reduce scope, make sensible tradeoffs, and work through technical and organizational blockers while respecting security and access requirements.
- Clear communication with technical and nontechnical teams; ability to build trust with users, explain tradeoffs plainly, and take responsibility for adoption as well as implementation.
