Thea Energy is commercializing fusion energy through stellarator physics breakthroughs. The company uses computer-controlled arrays of planar coils to replace complex modular magnets, enabling a faster path to zero-emission energy.
As Senior FEA Engineer, you will set strategic finite element analysis methodology and architecture across primary stellarator systems. You'll lead first-of-its-kind problem-solving initiatives, mentor junior analysts (Eng I/II/III), and serve as the primary authority on high-risk engineering decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and oversee system-level architectural models and highly coupled multi-physics simulations supporting major stellarator design and prototyping
- Perform multi-domain simulations including thermal, mechanical, vibration, and magnetic loads
- Execute steady-state and transient analyses with accurate material models to evaluate designs for stress/strain, fatigue, and creep across start-up, steady-state, shutdown, and off-nominal operating conditions
- Optimize structural designs for performance under all loading conditions while minimizing weight and maximizing maintainability
- Develop material models and serve as internal subject matter expert on complex weld evaluations and cryogenic material behavior
- Provide technical guidance and peer review for junior analysts to ensure model accuracy and best practices
- Actively participate in design process, identifying opportunities for higher-performing, lower-cost, more maintainable systems
- Drive continuous improvement with strong collaboration and communication across teams
Requirements:
- 8+ years of Finite Element Analysis experience with commercial software
- Experience scripting and building tools around commercial FEA tools
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems and identify root causes through meticulous analysis
- Proven experience developing first-of-its-kind components or systems
- Strong team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Comfortable working to ambitious timelines with exceptional work ethic, adaptability, and continuous improvement mindset
- Innate desire to learn, innovate, and critically evaluate ideas
