Honeycomb is an observability platform helping engineering teams understand how their software behaves in production. The Tenant team is building Honeycomb Private Cloud, a new product enabling enterprise customers to run their own Honeycomb instance in their own cloud environment. In this role, you will own the delivery and growth of Honeycomb Private Cloud—the infrastructure, tooling, and operational processes that power this offering. You'll work at the customer boundary, partnering with Field Engineering, Support, and Sales on proofs of concept, security reviews, access negotiations, and contract requirements. You'll lead across the organization, coordinating with multiple engineering teams to maintain alignment between the SaaS and Private Cloud products, ensuring feedback loops that make both offerings stronger. You'll build and develop a small, tenured, senior, high-context team, removing single points of failure and hiring the next generation of engineers as the product scales. This includes ruthless prioritization on a small team with enormous surface area, managing production on-call rotations, and ensuring operational health is a core requirement. Key responsibilities include owning Private Cloud delivery and infrastructure; growing the product to meet ambitious sales goals; working with enterprise customers on security, compliance, and procurement; leading cross-org initiatives; establishing feedback loops between Private Cloud and SaaS; and building a high-performing engineering team. **Requirements:** - 1+ year as an Engineering Manager for a highly technical, senior team - Solid track record as an engineer with experience influencing without authority and leaving things better than you found them - Experience managing or leading a team with a real production on-call rotation; treat operational health as a core requirement - Experience shipping and operating software in environments you don't fully control (on-prem, private cloud, BYOC, or managed single-tenant); understanding of version skew, partial telemetry, and customer security constraints - Kubernetes and AWS fluency sufficient to review designs, ask challenging questions, and be useful in incident reviews (not required to write Terraform) - Comfort being customer-facing with enterprise buyers: security questionnaires, access models, procurement, escalations - Ability to ruthlessly prioritize on a small team with enormous surface area; can articulate what you decided not to do and why - Experience hiring and onboarding engineers into domains with steep learning curves - Comfort with AI tooling and a point of view on where it helps and where it doesn't **Bonus qualifications:** - Familiarity with observability / OpenTelemetry - Still hands-on; enjoy contributing to and reviewing code - Background in Go, Terraform, Kafka, and large-scale data infrastructure - FedRAMP, GovCloud, or regulated-industry compliance experience - Field-adjacent background (solutions architecture, consulting, or deployment engineering)
