AlphaSense is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead teams building shared product platforms. The role covers two connected areas: API-first platforms that power multiple product surfaces, integrations, and agentic workflows, and the usage platform that meters and reports AI credit consumption across product features.
Both areas are built as products with well-designed APIs, clear contracts, strong reliability guarantees, and roadmaps driven by real product needs. The consumption platform is business-critical, underpinning how AlphaSense packages, prices, and reports on AI capabilities—accurate, timely, and auditable metering is a hard requirement.
This is a people-management role with the immediate team largely based in EMEA/US, so global people management is preferred. You will own hiring, growth, delivery, and operational health of your teams, and partner closely with Product, Platform, SRE, and Finance/RevOps to set direction. You'll stay technical enough to hold credible design discussions, review architecture, and push back where it matters, but your leverage comes through the engineers you grow and the systems they own. You'll work alongside Principal Engineers in long-term technical direction.
Key responsibilities include: leading and developing a team of backend and platform engineers; owning delivery of roadmap commitments and execution quality for platforms with many internal and external consumers; owning the direction of usage metering and AI credit accounting including accuracy, auditability, latency, and cost; partnering with Product to shape platform roadmap; hiring strong engineers and raising the bar; upholding API governance, versioning strategy, and backward compatibility; owning operational excellence including SLOs, observability, on-call health, and incident follow-through; partnering with Finance, RevOps, and Pricing on consumption models, entitlements, quotas, and reporting; creating clarity in cross-team problems; growing senior ICs and tech leads; and communicating technical trade-offs and risk across time zones.

Requirements: Proven experience managing backend or platform engineering teams including hiring, performance management, and career development; strong hands-on engineering background in backend or distributed systems prior to management with ability to engage credibly in design and code reviews; experience with product platforms or shared services consumed by multiple product teams; track record of delivering and operating APIs at scale with strong grounding in RESTful API design; experience with data-intensive systems including high-volume event ingestion, aggregation, and reporting; comfort with ambiguity and ability to influence technical direction across teams; strong written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have: Experience with consumption or usage-based business models (metering, rating, entitlements, quotas, billing integrations); experience with AI cost, token, or credit accounting systems; experience building or enabling agentic and AI-driven workflows including orchestration, state management, and integration patterns; familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar agent integration patterns; some experience with GraphQL; experience in large-scale distributed systems environments; experience working closely with Platform and SRE teams; experience leading globally distributed teams.
