DocPlanner (formerly Doctoralia) is a healthcare platform operating in 13 countries, trusted by 90+ million patients and 300k+ specialists. The company is backed by leading VCs including Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and One Peak Partners, and employs 2,500+ people globally while maintaining a startup mindset.
You will lead a team of 7–9 engineers focused on the Payments area, working closely with the Product Manager. The role combines people leadership with hands-on engineering: you'll own performance management, grow engineers through coaching and stretch opportunities, and actively contribute to the codebase yourself. The team operates with an AI-native development approach, and you'll help keep those practices sharp as tools evolve.
Success in 6 months means every engineer has clear expectations and a growth plan; performance issues are addressed early; the team delivers faster and at higher quality (measurable in metrics like TPV); you're making deliberate trade-offs between foundational work and fast experimentation; and you're shipping features consistently, modeling what smart AI-native coding looks like in production.
Key responsibilities include owning performance management (setting expectations, feedback, reviews, calibrations), leveling up engineers through individual growth plans and code review, collaborating with Product and Design on investment decisions, staying hands-on in the codebase, maintaining AI-native practices and quality as delivery speeds up, and tracking impact with concrete metrics (delivery speed, quality, team engagement, product outcomes).
The Payments initiatives directly affect how people manage and pay for healthcare, building tools that drive retention, daily engagement, continuity of care, and accessibility.
DocPlanner offers 100% remote work within Spain with flexible hours (mostly just a couple of meetings weekly), summer intensive schedule (7 hours/day in July–August), 23 paid holidays plus birthday/anniversary holiday, private healthcare with Adeslas, gym access via Wellhub, mental wellness via iFeel, and free English/Spanish classes. Flexible remuneration via Flexoh includes restaurant card, transportation card, kindergarten, and training tax savings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 4+ years leading engineering teams in product companies (hiring, growth, performance management)
- Track record of growing people: can point to engineers who leveled up under your leadership and difficult performance situations handled well
- Hands-on experience using AI to speed up code writing, review, and refactoring, with good judgment on when not to rely on it
- Founder mindset: move quickly from idea to experiment, validate with real users, pivot without ego when evidence warrants
- Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy being first to try something new
- Fluent English
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience in payments or fintech (PSPs, reconciliation, compliance)
- Experience working at scale (though company values how you think, impact you drive, and focus on meaningful user outcomes over company size)
