DocPlanner (formerly Doctoralia) is a healthcare platform operating in 13 countries with 90+ million patients and 300k+ specialists using the platform. The company is backed by top-tier VCs including Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and One Peak Partners, and employs 2,500+ people globally while maintaining a startup mindset. You will lead a team of 7–9 engineers focused on the Payments area, working closely with the Product Manager. The role combines people leadership with hands-on engineering: you'll own performance management, grow engineers through coaching and stretch opportunities, and actively contribute to the codebase yourself. The team operates with an AI-native development approach, and you'll help keep those practices sharp as tools evolve. Success in 6 months means: every engineer has clear expectations and a growth plan with visible leveling up; performance issues are addressed early; the team delivers faster and at higher quality (measurable in metrics like TPV); you're making deliberate trade-offs between foundational work and fast experimentation; and you're shipping features consistently, modeling what smart AI-native coding looks like in production. Key responsibilities include owning performance management (expectations, feedback, reviews, calibrations), leveling up engineers through individual growth plans and code review, collaborating with Product and Design on investment decisions, staying hands-on in the codebase, maintaining AI-native practices and quality as delivery speeds up, and tracking impact with concrete metrics (delivery speed, quality, team engagement, product outcomes). The Payments initiatives directly affect how people manage and pay for healthcare, building tools that drive retention, engagement, and continuity of care. DocPlanner is 100% remote-friendly. The company emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and bringing your whole self to work. Benefits include private healthcare, subsidized family healthcare, multisport card co-financing, mental wellness platform access (iFeel), and free English/Spanish classes. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years of software engineering experience - 4+ years leading engineering teams in product companies (hiring, growth, performance management) - Track record of growing people: can point to engineers who leveled up under your leadership and difficult performance situations handled well - Hands-on experience using AI to speed up code writing, review, and refactoring, with good judgment on when not to rely on it - Founder mindset: move quickly from idea to experiment, validate with real users, pivot without ego based on evidence - Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy being first to try something new - Fluent English NICE TO HAVE: - Experience in payments or fintech (PSPs, reconciliation, compliance) - Experience working at scale (though impact and user focus valued over company size)
