Uber is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Merchant Fulfillment organization in India. You will manage a geographically distributed team of 50+ engineers and engineering managers, owning critical order lifecycle technologies that process millions of orders daily across Uber Eats.
In this high-visibility role, you will drive business-critical projects and platforms that merchants and restaurants depend on for daily operations. Your decisions will directly impact merchant experience, sentiment, and operational trust globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing organization of ~50 engineers and managers, fostering technical excellence, operational rigor, and customer empathy
- Own the Uber Eats Orders (UEO) tablet experience and underlying reliability systems ensuring 99.99% uptime for order injection and processing
- Build intelligent, automated platforms for chargebacks, cancellations, and disputes to reduce financial losses while improving fairness
- Lead the BRING YOUR OWN COURIER (BYOC) charter, building "To-Go" and courier onboarding technology enabling merchants to fulfill orders with their own fleets
- Own the defect reduction mandate, using technology to predict and prevent order failures
- Partner with Product, Ops, and Design leaders in India and the US to define fulfillment strategy at scale
You will work on high-scale, distributed systems handling high throughput with strict latency SLAs. This role requires translating complex business goals into concrete technical roadmaps and driving consensus across multiple product teams and time zones.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of engineering experience with 6+ years in people management, ideally leading managers and larger organizations (50+)
- Strong background building high-scale, distributed systems with deep understanding of reliability, eventual consistency, and real-time data processing
- Ability to translate complex business goals into technical roadmaps
- Passion for solving real-world operational problems and understanding customer impact
- Experience working in global setups, influencing stakeholders across time zones and functions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep familiarity with modern frontend ecosystems (React, Next.js, Micro-frontends) and mobile platforms (React Native)
- Experience managing systems with high throughput and strict latency SLAs (P99 < 200ms)
- Ability to drive consensus across multiple product teams and convince teams to adopt platform standards
