Salary: USD 208,602 - 250,322 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. You will be accountable for the performance, delivery, and customer outcomes of two distributed engineering teams, each focused on critical areas: Frontend Platform enables teams to build reliable, high-quality experiences across Grafana, while Navigation helps users find and organize resources and move confidently through the product.
In this role, you will manage senior engineers, develop technical leaders, and foster a culture of trust and accountability. You'll own hiring and team planning, aligning capacity and skills with product priorities. You'll lead discovery by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users, combining their feedback with research and usage evidence to shape roadmaps and priorities.
You'll partner closely with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs between customer needs, long-term investments, and operational demands. You own delivery across both squads from discovery through rollout and measurement, setting milestones and surfacing risks early.
A key aspect of this role is leveraging AI and automation to improve how squads plan, make decisions, and deliver. You'll use AI regularly in your management work to synthesize research, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting. You'll lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering workflows, evaluating their impact on delivery speed, quality, and time spent on repetitive work.
You'll set engineering direction for frontend foundations including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities. You'll also set direction for navigation, search, and resource organization, including where AI-assisted discovery can enhance user experience. You'll set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including how teams evaluate and validate AI-assisted work.
Additionally, you'll participate in the engineering management on-call rota, coordinate incident responses, and drive improvements that reduce recurring disruption. You'll use Grafana's AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, bringing that experience into product feedback and roadmap decisions.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders
- Ability to give clear feedback and address performance gaps directly and fairly
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and architectural decisions
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
- Experience managing delivery risks and operational demands
- Strong product and customer judgment, connecting engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes
- Clear, concise written communication and ability to work effectively in remote, globally distributed organizations
- Appreciation for open-source development and judgment to balance Cloud-first delivery with community and customer needs
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work, and leading teams to adopt them effectively
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
- Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions
- Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products
- Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
- Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product
