Salary: GBP 117,949 - 141,539 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. You will be accountable for the performance, delivery, and customer outcomes of two distributed engineering teams, each focused on critical areas: Frontend Platform (enabling reliable, high-quality experiences across the product) and Navigation (helping users find and organize resources).
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing two distributed squads: setting clear expectations, delegating effectively, coaching and developing team members, providing timely feedback, and building a culture of trust and accountability
- Owning hiring and team planning, aligning capacity and skills with product priorities
- Leading discovery by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps
- Partnering with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities and resolve dependencies
- Owning delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, setting milestones and surfacing risks early
- Using AI regularly in management work to synthesize research, inform decisions, and streamline coordination
- Improving squad planning, decision-making, and delivery processes; leading adoption of AI and automation
- Setting engineering direction for frontend foundations (developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, multitenant capabilities) and navigation/search/resource organization
- Setting and upholding engineering standards for quality, security, and operability
- Leading improvements across R&D that increase engineering productivity
- Participating in engineering management on-call rotation and using Grafana's observability capabilities

Requirements:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders; ability to give clear feedback and address performance gaps directly and fairly
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and architectural decisions
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results, managing delivery risks and operational demands
- Strong product and customer judgment, connecting engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes
- Clear, concise written communication and ability to work effectively in remote, globally distributed organizations
- Appreciation for open-source development and judgment to balance Cloud-first delivery with community and customer needs
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them effectively
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
- Experience leading developer platform teams, including support for plugins or extensions
- Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products
- Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
- Experience working on widely adopted open-source products
