Salary: EUR 106,680 - 128,016 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. You will be accountable for the performance, delivery, and customer outcomes of two distributed engineering teams, each focused on critical areas: Frontend Platform (enabling reliable, high-quality experiences across the product) and Navigation (helping users find and organize resources).
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop senior engineers across two squads: set clear expectations, delegate effectively, provide coaching and feedback, address performance gaps, and build a culture of trust and accountability.
- Own hiring and team planning, aligning team capacity and skills with product priorities and longer-term organizational needs.
- Lead discovery directly with customers, community members, and internal users; synthesize feedback with research and usage data to shape roadmaps and priorities.
- Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leadership to set priorities, resolve cross-team dependencies, and make trade-offs between customer needs, long-term investments, and operational demands.
- Own delivery end-to-end: set milestones, surface risks early, and intervene when commitments are at risk.
- Leverage AI tools in management work to synthesize research, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting.
- Improve squad planning, decision-making, and delivery processes; lead adoption of AI and automation in engineering workflows, measuring impact on speed, quality, and time spent on repetitive work.
- Set engineering direction for frontend foundations (developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, multitenant capabilities) and navigation/search/resource organization, including AI-assisted discovery.
- Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including evaluation of AI-assisted work.
- Lead improvements across Grafana R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes.
- Participate in engineering management on-call rotation; use Grafana's AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, feeding insights into product feedback and roadmap decisions.

Requirements:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders; ability to give clear feedback and address performance gaps directly and fairly.
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and shaping architectural and engineering-quality decisions with senior engineers.
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results; ability to manage delivery risks and operational demands.
- Strong product and customer judgment; ability to connect engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes.
- Clear, concise written communication and ability to work effectively in remote, globally distributed organizations.
- Appreciation for open-source development and judgment to balance Cloud-first delivery with needs of customers, community, and internal teams.
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work, and leading teams to adopt them effectively.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
- Experience leading developer platform teams, including support for plugins or extensions.
- Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products.
- Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
- Experience working on widely adopted open-source products.
