Salary: CAD 211,450 - 253,740 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. You will be accountable for the performance, delivery, and customer outcomes of two distributed engineering teams focused on shaping Grafana's user experience—from dashboards and visualizations to navigation, search, and resource organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop senior engineers across two squads: set clear expectations, delegate effectively, provide coaching and feedback, and build a culture of trust and accountability.
- Own hiring, team planning, and capacity alignment with product priorities.
- Lead discovery by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users to inform roadmaps and priorities.
- Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs.
- Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement; set milestones and surface risks early.
- Use AI tools regularly in management work to synthesize research, inform decisions, and streamline coordination.
- Improve squad planning, decision-making, and delivery processes; lead adoption of AI and automation in engineering workflows.
- Set engineering direction for frontend foundations (developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, multitenant capabilities) and navigation/search/resource organization.
- Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including validation of AI-assisted work.
- Lead improvements across Grafana R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes.
- Participate in engineering management on-call rotation and drive improvements to reduce recurring disruption.
The role is 100% remote and part of a globally distributed, 40+ country organization. Requirements:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders; ability to give clear feedback and address performance gaps directly and fairly.
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and shaping architectural decisions with senior engineers.
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results; ability to manage delivery risks and operational demands.
- Strong product and customer judgment; ability to connect engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes.
- Clear, concise written communication and ability to work effectively in remote, globally distributed organizations.
- Appreciation for open-source development and judgment to balance Cloud-first delivery with community and customer needs.
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them effectively.
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
- Experience leading developer platform teams, including support for plugins or extensions.
- Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products.
- Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
- Experience working on widely adopted open-source products.
