Salary: USD 204,000 - 306,000 / annual
Duolingo is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Experiments Team and oversee the A/B testing platform that powers product development across the company. This role combines platform engineering leadership with deep product partnership, as nearly all product changes at Duolingo go through experimentation.
In this position, you will manage a team of software engineers building and scaling Duolingo's in-house Experiment Platform. Your responsibilities include expanding platform capabilities to support more sophisticated A/B testing methodologies and statistical approaches, empowering product teams to confidently evaluate metrics and gate new features, and enabling accelerated feature shipping through improved automation and backend-based learner experience controls.
You will work to scale the platform to handle dramatically increased experiment velocity while maintaining statistical rigor and cost efficiency. A key part of the role involves partnering with product teams across Duolingo to devise measurement strategies for complex scenarios and advise on experimentation strategy. You'll shape how the company uses A/B testing to build the best possible experience for Duolingo's half-billion-plus learners worldwide.
The role is based in either New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA, with flexibility to work from or relocate to either location.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience leading, managing, and building teams of software engineers, with demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain talent
- Track record of building scalable infrastructure and working with large datasets
- Experience with A/B testing, either through supporting experiment infrastructure or using A/B tests in product development
- Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, particularly between product and platform teams
- Ability to work from or relocate to Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY
EXCEPTIONAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
- Prior experience building an experimentation platform or A/B testing-related tooling
- Experience operating in a high-speed product development environment
- Comfort with the statistical methods behind hypothesis testing
