Halter is an agricultural technology company transforming grazing practices through innovative software and AI-powered capabilities. The company enables farmers and graziers to run more productive and sustainable operations using precision livestock management technology, backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC.
You will lead a growing engineering team and Solution Architect, reporting to the Head of Ecosystem and AI. Your team builds across revenue, finance, marketing, localization, and internal tools—connecting systems and experiences that support Halter's commercial and customer operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, coaching, and developing software engineers and a Solution Architect with clear expectations and growth support
- Owning engineering delivery: turning priorities into achievable plans and maintaining momentum
- Partnering with Senior Product Manager and Ecosystem Manager to scope solutions, manage dependencies, and deliver connected experiences
- Guiding design and architecture decisions aligned with the wider ecosystem
- Building and improving applications, integrations, services, and AI capabilities for commercial and customer operations
- Setting engineering standards for quality and maintainability
- Owning operational health including monitoring, incident response, and reliability improvements
- Balancing new capabilities, technical debt, and platform improvements with clear trade-off communication
- Leading hiring and onboarding to build team capability
- Shaping technical direction, team capacity, and investment priorities with leadership
The role requires strong technical judgment and real ownership of delivery. You'll be comfortable getting into technical detail while giving your team context and autonomy to own their work. Halter operates with an office-first culture (not office-only) emphasizing in-person connection and high-trust flexibility.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience leading software engineers, coaching people, managing performance, and building strong teams
- Strong engineering depth to challenge designs, review approaches, and solve complex problems
- Experience delivering applications, APIs, and integrations from discovery through production and ongoing support
- Sound architectural judgment balancing speed, reliability, security, and maintainability
- Experience managing delivery across multiple projects with clear trade-off communication and early risk identification
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical work with product and business stakeholders
- Practical approach to engineering standards, testing, deployment, observability, and documentation
- Clear communication and collaborative approach that helps others understand technical decisions
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building internal applications or tools for commercial and customer teams
- Experience integrating with Salesforce, finance, marketing, or other critical business systems
- Hands-on experience delivering AI-powered applications, agents, or automation
- Experience with TypeScript, Python, cloud infrastructure, and modern application architectures
- Experience supporting software across markets including localization
- Experience growing engineering teams in fast-paced tech scale-ups
