Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company on a mission to power the world's transition to clean energy. They engineer and manufacture breakthrough battery materials that significantly increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles.
As a Senior Engineer in Cell Design on the Slurry & Coating team, you will be an integral part of developing next-generation batteries for industrial devices. You'll lead joint development partnerships by facilitating technical meetings, delivering data packages on schedule, managing partner relationships, and executing experiments aligned with project goals. Your responsibilities include developing and executing comprehensive experiments in small and prototype full cells across slurry & coating, electrolyte optimization, cell design and integration, and electrochemical test methods. You'll perform thorough failure analysis on small pouch and prototype cells to identify root causes, apply advanced data analysis and statistical methods to interpret results and inform design iterations, and communicate findings to internal stakeholders and external partners.
You'll accelerate learning cycles by developing new techniques and test methods to detect downstream challenges early, collaborate across functional teams at Sila and with external customers, and embody company values as the organization grows. This is a hands-on role requiring laboratory work, data-driven problem solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting program objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong technical background with experience in lithium-ion batteries, including process steps such as slurry, coating, cell design, and cell teardown
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in batteries or related field (or PhD graduate with university experience)
- At least a B.S. or M.S. in engineering or science
- Well-organized, data-driven approach to problem solving and experimental design
- Proficiency with databases and data analysis tools (JMP, Python, etc.)
- Exceptional communication abilities with internal groups and external customers; Korean/Japanese language fluency is a plus
- Ability to plan and implement multiple projects simultaneously
- Understanding of lab safety best practices
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment and pass respirator fit test as needed
- Up to 10% domestic and international travel
