The Exploration Company is building innovative aerospace technologies for space transportation. We seek a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to own the complete software stack for embedded real-time systems, from bootloader and BSP through OS and application layers. You will be responsible for bringing up RTOS and developing BSP for ARM Cortex-M cores, including MPU configuration and inter-core communication. You'll develop, test, and maintain an extensive set of MCU drivers (ADC, SPI, Clock, etc.) to meet application requirements. Your scope includes developing complete communication stacks, validating integration in host systems, and developing drivers for complex ICs. You will perform integration testing of MCU and FPGA interfaces, set up toolchain and CI infrastructure for MCU and embedded platforms (including HiL and automated test equipment control), own design documentation, and validate requirements. You'll coordinate across all disciplines—electronics design engineers, system engineers, test teams, and EGSE teams—working on platform units. The role requires staying current with industry trends and advancements in avionics design. You are expected to work independently on platform software stack ownership while instinctively collaborating with hardware teams on platform design and application stakeholders on requirements. Hands-on debugging with debug probes (JTAG), serial consoles, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes is core to the work. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field - Strong background in embedded C/C++ coding - RTOS bring-up experience on Cortex-M cores (ThreadX/Azure RTOS, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent) - Hands-on experience in firmware development and platform bring-up - Hands-on experience with communication protocols/stacks (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet IP/TCP) - Knowledge of safety-critical design principles - Familiarity with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability & Safety (RAMS) aspects - Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams - Meticulous attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation - Hands-on mentality for testing and problem debugging in laboratory settings PLUS (preferred): - Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for embedded hardware targets - Experience with TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) - Experience with FPGA and VHDL - Python and bash scripting - Understanding of space-relevant standards (ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK) - Awareness of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, DO-178C, or similar)
