MemryX is a semiconductor company focused on delivering high-performance, low-power AI accelerators for edge computing. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the company operates engineering branches in Taipei, Hsinchu (Taiwan), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The company has developed a unique compute-near-memory architecture that minimizes data movement and enables massively parallel, scalable on-chip AI inference, with a full hardware-software stack (compiler, runtime, and APIs). MemryX is currently in production with its MX3 AI accelerator and actively developing the next-generation MX4, backed by top-tier venture capital.
The Senior Director of Hardware Engineering will lead the development of MemryX's next-generation AI accelerator chip. This is a highly technical leadership role responsible for guiding the chip design team from architecture and specification through implementation, tapeout, bring-up, and production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and grow the hardware engineering team responsible for AI accelerator chip design and implementation
- Drive chip development from product requirements and architecture through RTL design, verification, physical implementation, tapeout, silicon bring-up, and production
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (architecture, software, systems, product, business) to define next-generation AI accelerator architecture, SoC architecture, memory hierarchy, interfaces, performance targets, and product requirements
- Translate system- and product-level requirements into clear hardware architecture and implementation specifications
- Lead technical tradeoff analyses across performance, power, area, cost, schedule, and implementation risk
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and design reviews across key chip areas: compute architecture, memory subsystem, SoC integration, interconnect, and external interfaces
- Establish development plans, milestones, ownership, and execution processes for complex ASIC programs
- Identify technical and schedule risks early and drive engineering teams toward practical solutions
- Coordinate closely with software, compiler, firmware, systems, and application teams to ensure hardware/software co-design and successful product deployment
- Manage relationships and technical execution with external semiconductor partners (foundries, OSATs, IP vendors, EDA vendors, design service providers)
- Lead technical discussions involving process technology, IP selection, packaging, manufacturing, test, yield, cost, and supply-chain considerations
- Support silicon bring-up, characterization, debug, qualification, and transition into volume production
- Communicate architecture decisions, technical status, risks, schedules, and recommendations to engineering leadership and company executives
- Mentor engineers and technical leads; build a strong, pragmatic, execution-focused hardware engineering organization
The role is full-time, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage (MemryX covers 100% of employee premium), 401(k) matching, equity incentive packages, company-paid life insurance, unlimited paid time off, generous paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and professional development support.
