Snowflake is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead the Horizon Catalog, Collaboration & Marketplace engineering organization. This role sits at the intersection of planet-scale distributed systems and enterprise product experience, responsible for building the governance, catalog, quality, and privacy engine (Snowflake Horizon) alongside collaboration platforms that enable secure data sharing, distribution, and monetization across organizations.
You will lead a mission-critical engineering organization including Engineering Directors, Senior Engineering Managers, and Principal Engineers across multiple hubs. Key responsibilities include:
- Building agentic experiences for data exploration and governance intent expression, with capabilities like data-quality monitoring, lineage tracking, and integration with open standards (Apache Polaris/Iceberg REST catalog)
- Architecting secure data sharing, zero-copy integrations, Native Apps, Data Clean Rooms, and Snowflake Marketplace platforms that connect providers and consumers globally
- Developing search and business ontology capabilities to help humans and AI agents understand data semantics
- Spearheading native data quality monitoring, automated profiling, schema validation, and real-time alerts
- Architecting administrative tooling, tenant management control planes, and centralized policy orchestration for multi-account, multi-region deployments
- Driving cross-functional alignment with Product, Design, and Security to translate customer pain points into execution roadmaps
- Serving as executive sponsor for tier-1 enterprise customers and championing operational excellence with 99.99%+ availability across AWS, Azure, and GCP
You will combine world-class distributed systems engineering with sharp product understanding, ensuring technical resilience, economic efficiency, and intuitive packaging for enterprise administrators and data engineers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 15+ years of software engineering experience in product infrastructure, distributed systems, or enterprise cloud platforms
- 7+ years managing engineering directors, managers, and senior leaders across multi-team organizations
- Strong technical product acumen with deep understanding of customer workflows, enterprise admin personas, usability, and how technical architecture drives adoption
- Strong foundation in cloud-native distributed systems, high-throughput metadata storage, query execution, caching layers, and cross-region replication
- Proven ability to attract, hire, retain, and develop elite engineering talent; ability to foster inclusive, high-ownership engineering culture
- Exceptional executive communication skills for articulating complex technical architectures, trade-offs, and strategies to VP/C-level leaders and enterprise customers
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience with data governance frameworks, metadata management, automated lineage tracking, data classification (PII), or data masking/privacy controls
- Experience building or operating open lakehouse catalog engines (Apache Iceberg, Apache Polaris, Unity Catalog, Hive Metastore)
- Experience with secure data sharing, privacy-preserving collaboration (data clean rooms), application distribution platforms, or data/app marketplaces and commerce systems
- Experience architecting systems deployed natively across multiple public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP)
