1Kosmos is a Series B identity security company building passwordless authentication and identity assurance solutions for enterprise customers. You will join as Senior Director of Engineering, reporting to the SVP of Engineering and Chief Architect, leading a mid-sized engineering team while remaining deeply hands-on in technical execution.
This is a builder-first leadership role. You'll manage and mentor your team while actively participating in architectural design, code reviews, system optimization, and hands-on problem-solving. The company emphasizes a "sleeveless" mindset—no task is too technical or too small to dive into.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and elevating a mid-sized engineering team with a focus on mentorship and technical growth
- Taking full ownership of existing cloud-agnostic microservices architecture, understanding design decisions before making changes
- Working hands-on with the agentic stack (AWS Bedrock, Python, Node.js) to build and optimize autonomous agent workflows, orchestration, and reliability
- Driving performance, security, and resilience across the platform with focus on low latency, high throughput, and enterprise-grade security
- Partnering with product and QA to ensure reliable, zero-downtime deployments
- Fostering a collaborative, zero-ego culture where ownership and execution are paramount
The role sits at the intersection of identity security, cloud infrastructure, and emerging AI/agentic systems. You'll be responsible for both tactical execution and strategic evolution of the platform.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with recent hands-on engineering leadership at Director or VP level in high-growth B2B SaaS
- Deep, practical experience with Node.js (90% of the stack) plus Java or GoLang
- Hands-on mastery of containerized, cloud-agnostic environments (Kubernetes, AWS)
- Demonstrated experience building and operationalizing autonomous agents and agentic workflows; AWS Bedrock experience is a strong plus
- Deep appreciation for platform security, identity management, compliance, and secure software development practices
- Proven track record building 0-to-1 systems and taking ownership of mature, inherited codebases
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, influence without authority, and build strong cross-functional relationships
