Better.com is rebuilding home finance as an AI-native platform, having funded over $110B in loans and raised $1.2B+ in equity. The company operates at scale while modernizing the $15 trillion mortgage industry through proprietary AI platforms like Tinman® and voice-based assistant Betsy™.
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to build and maintain the engineering platform that supports Better's large, multi-service monorepo and the teams that develop and operate it. You will own infrastructure reliability, security, and scalability across AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD systems, and developer tooling. This role is central to scaling a growing SaaS business, supporting multi-tenant workloads, and making strategic tradeoffs between reliability, performance, and cost.
Key responsibilities include:
- Integrating AI as a standard part of daily engineering workflows, including coding, operations, incident triage, and documentation
- Building and managing shared AI infrastructure, including model access and governance, LLM observability and evaluations, and AI features that improve platform reliability, security, and incident triage
- Provisioning and managing Terraform-based AWS infrastructure for a large multi-service monorepo
- Operating production workloads on Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS
- Governing the package supply chain: artifact registries, dependency distribution, provenance, and registry migrations
- Building and improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling
- Driving cloud cost efficiency through cost attribution, commitment decisions, and rightsizing
- Administering identity and access controls, including SSO, IAM policies, and access audits
- Building and maintaining observability infrastructure, including OpenTelemetry pipelines, dashboards, and monitors; participating in on-call rotation and leading incident response
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE
- Deep knowledge of AWS and Terraform
- Production experience operating both ECS and EKS
- Experience deploying services with Helm and continuous-delivery tooling (Spinnaker or ArgoCD)
- Fluency with OpenTelemetry collectors and pipelines
- Working knowledge of IAM, SSO, and access auditing
- Strong scripting skills for automation and troubleshooting
- Ability to quickly ramp on unfamiliar services and drive their technical implementation
- Experience building and running internal tools or services that integrate AI models in production, including managed model platforms
- Exposure to compliance and audit controls
