Jane is seeking a Senior Developer for Platform (Developer Operations) to lead the newly formed Developer Operations team. You will own GitHub administration end-to-end across Jane's rapidly scaling engineering organization—350+ developers shipping software daily across 900+ repositories. Your mission: establish and enforce operational and security baselines so that every repository at Jane meets defined standards within twelve months, making compliance automatic rather than policed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own GitHub at organizational scale: manage multiple orgs, 900+ repos, and 300+ developers. Define what good looks like operationally and from a security perspective, and serve as the escalation point for the entire organization.
- Build the golden path: design repo creation workflows, branch protections, rulesets, required reviews, secret scanning, and least-privilege access so teams get the right setup by default without needing to read documentation.
- Automate compliance: implement configuration drift detection, compliance reporting, and guided enforcement through bots and dashboards. Partner with Platform Security on access controls, secret management, and alerting.
- Lead change management: guide 300+ developers through workflow changes over a 12-month phased rollout. Pilot with select teams, then broaden adoption with hands-on migration support. Expect pushback and bring people along collaboratively.
- Extend the model: prove the approach on GitHub, then apply it to Jira, Datadog, JFrog, and other SDLC tools as the team grows.
You'll work with cross-functional partners including Security, Delivery Engineering, Backend Foundations, and Developer Acceleration teams. This is a foundational role on a new team—you'll define how the team operates before it exists, working with real independence but supported by working groups that have already done strategic thinking on baselines.
Jane is a founder-led, high-growth SaaS company serving healthcare clinics. The company has grown from 250 to 500 engineers in 2.5 years and is valued at $1.8B (May 2025). More than 70,000 businesses and 250,000+ practitioners use Jane daily. The team is remote-first, distributed across Canada, the US, and the UK.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on administration of developer tooling at organizational scale. You've owned platforms other engineers depend on, whether managed SaaS or self-hosted. Practical GitHub administration required: org and enterprise settings, rulesets and branch protections, GitHub Apps and integrations, Actions, SSO/SCIM and access management, secret scanning and code security, audit logs. Experience cleaning up large, drifted GitHub estates is a strong plus.
- Configuration as code expertise: Terraform, GitHub API, and scripting (Bash, Python, TypeScript, or similar) to automate configuration, drift detection, and reporting across hundreds of repos. Comfortable hosting and running tools in AWS, ideally including EKS.
- Security-first mindset: least privilege by default, sound secret management, and a track record of partnering with security teams.
- Autonomy and consultative skills: you'll define baselines rather than wait for them, comfortable with ambiguity, and skilled at influence without authority. Able to get hundreds of developers to adopt standards through support rather than governance.
- Fluency with AI coding tools (Claude and Cursor preferred): able to direct agents through automation, reporting, and migration work while maintaining responsibility for correctness and blast radius on org-wide configuration changes.
Note: If you don't meet every qualification but are excited about the role, Jane encourages you to apply.
