Front is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and engineering in a mature, complex B2B SaaS product. Front is a customer operations platform used by 9,000+ companies including Uber Freight, Navan, and Stripe. The company is backed by Sequoia Capital and Salesforce Ventures and has raised $204M.
In this hands-on senior individual contributor role, you will own and evolve Front's design system across Figma, Storybook, and production code. You'll build, refactor, and maintain reusable, accessible, well-documented UI components that product teams use across Front's core surfaces. Key responsibilities include identifying and reducing design/code drift across component libraries and legacy UI patterns, establishing patterns and conventions that improve consistency and accessibility, prototyping new interaction patterns to help teams align quickly, and partnering closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers to define what great looks like for complex enterprise workflows.
You'll use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate prototyping, iteration, and system maintenance while applying strong judgment. This role has high leverage across Product, Design, and Engineering, and you'll influence teams without becoming a bottleneck. You won't just document the design system—you'll build it, ship it, evolve it, and help teams adopt it.
Front has a mature product surface with over a decade of UI investment, a rich Figma library, and a large production codebase. The right person is equally comfortable in Figma and frontend code, brings strong systems thinking, and prefers to make ideas real in code and iterate quickly.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of experience designing and building production frontend experiences, ideally in complex B2B SaaS, enterprise software, developer tools, or similarly deep product domains
- Strong frontend engineering skills with modern web technologies and component-based architecture; ability to ramp quickly in a large, mature codebase
- High UI/UX craft and strong product taste; ability to evaluate interfaces for visual polish, usability, accessibility, flexibility, and maintainability
- Experience building or maintaining component libraries, Storybook documentation, visual regression workflows, design-token pipelines, Figma workflows/plugins, or similar design-engineering infrastructure
- Strong accessibility fundamentals including semantic HTML, ARIA patterns, keyboard interaction models, focus management, and inclusive component states
- Strong communication skills; ability to explain technical and design-system decisions to both specialists and non-specialists
- Portfolio or body of work showing shipped design-engineering impact (production UI, component systems, prototypes, Storybook examples, design-system documentation, or code-backed product work)
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Working on products with large existing frontend surface area, multiple product teams, and mature or evolving design systems
- Experience in customer support, customer operations, collaboration software, internal tools, developer tools, or workflow-heavy SaaS
- Consolidating fragmented component libraries or aligning Figma libraries with production code
- Using AI-assisted coding or design tools to accelerate prototyping, refactoring, and product iteration
