Salary: CAD 94,100 - 160,000 / annual
ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join their infrastructure team in Toronto. In this role, you will become a subject matter expert in production database troubleshooting, ServiceNow instance performance optimization, and Linux performance analysis across on-premises and hyperscaler environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning complex incident root cause analysis across multi-tenant PostgreSQL and MariaDB fleets at scale
- Developing observability solutions and automation to prevent recurrence of critical issues
- Influencing infrastructure decisions that shape ServiceNow's multi-tenant cloud platform
- Mentoring and collaborating with engineers across operations, support, and development teams
- Conducting performance and stress testing to drive realistic customer simulations
- Troubleshooting and optimizing database performance in distributed, containerized environments
You will work on mission-critical software supporting 85% of the Fortune 500, helping drive ServiceNow's AI control tower platform that brings together AI, data, and workflows for business reinvention.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of database management and performance tuning experience
- 5+ years supporting or testing large-scale web-based distributed applications on containers (Apache/Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, WebSphere) in Unix environments
- 3+ years developing on SaaS, PaaS, or Cloud Infrastructure products
- 4+ years of experience with multiple relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including MVCC, transaction management, vacuum mechanics, database/query performance tuning, buffer management, WAL architecture, and backup/restore
- Proven experience with concurrency, multithreading, and distributed system architectures
- Strong Unix skills: development, navigation, file manipulation, permissions, searching/finding files and text, administrative actions
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent technical discipline (or similar work experience)
- Experience leveraging or critically thinking about integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Basic shell scripting, Python, JavaScript, Ansible
- Formal experience on DevOps (Kubernetes, CI/CD pipeline), Performance, or support teams
- Demonstrated experience leading individual projects, including scheduling and reporting
