The Growth Data Engineering team, part of the Flywheel Data Engineering group, builds trusted data foundations and self-serve capabilities for the customer growth side of the marketplace. In this Senior Data Engineer role, you will own data solutions end-to-end—from ingesting and integrating critical internal and external datasets into reliable tables, metrics, and data products that drive customer acquisition and retention. You'll work closely with Growth Analytics, Marketing, and Engineering teams to translate business needs into delivered outcomes and enable faster decision-making with confidence. Key responsibilities include: - Delivering reliable, high-quality data solutions that enable growth decision-making across acquisition, conversion, engagement, and retention - Acting as a trusted thought partner with Marketing, Analytics, and Engineering teams to drive adoption of self-serve data capabilities - Leading system design for new capabilities and continuously evolving production systems—architecture, testing, observability, performance, and cost efficiency—with a bias toward simplicity, reusability, and maintainability - Maintaining a sustainable balance between operational responsibilities and building new solutions, using team SLOs to prioritize improvements - Raising the engineering bar through strong code reviews, design input, and hands-on mentorship; influencing standards and technology choices The role is hybrid based in Berlin with three days in-office collaboration (Mon, Tue, Thu) and two days of optional at-home focus time. You'll have flexibility to work from anywhere in the world for 30 days per year. Requirements: - 5+ years in a relevant data role, with demonstrated experience building and owning a data domain end-to-end—from source integration through to models and metrics that downstream teams depend on - Expertise in SQL and Python, building robust data pipelines and data models, and operating data at scale in warehouses/lakes (Delta, Snowflake, PostgreSQL/MySQL) with strong focus on data quality, accuracy, and reliability - Strong dbt proficiency and familiarity with Spark - Solid understanding of data visualization and enablement through tools like Looker/Tableau and notebooks (e.g., Jupyter) - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences - Ability to prioritize effectively, manage stakeholders, and translate business needs into clear technical plans and delivered outcomes - Proactive, customer-oriented, and comfortable owning projects end-to-end, balancing system health with new delivery - Collaborative and mentoring-minded; enjoys sharing knowledge and raising standards through reviews - Uses modern AI tools to boost productivity while maintaining strong standards for quality, security, and governance Desirable experience: - Delivered data products in growth and marketing adjacent domains (Retention, Channel Attribution, Brand, CRM) in complex, multi-stakeholder environments - Comfortable with Java/Scala; values clean code, solid testing habits, and pragmatic automation - Delivered AI capabilities—from LLM-powered discovery to automated insight generation, including natural-language data access and semantic layer solutions
