Allica Bank is the UK's fastest-growing fintech firm, focused on serving established SMEs—a major underserved segment in financial services. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will own the complete data lifecycle from source systems through to business-critical reports and insights.
This is a broad, hands-on role spanning data engineering and BI with high autonomy. You will design, build, and maintain reliable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory. You'll model data in Power BI to enable self-service analytics across the organization, and work directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into trusted datasets and reports.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and optimizing data pipelines for extraction, transformation, and loading from multiple sources, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
- Implementing data validation, cleansing, and governance practices to guarantee high-quality, consistent datasets
- Building and maintaining Power BI semantic models and reports that enable business users to self-serve
- Owning end-to-end recurring data processes (e.g., CAIS, DCM, data tapes) and working with internal and external stakeholders
- Managing data tooling (Power BI, Synapse Analytics): configuration, security, access, maintenance, upgrades, and user training
- Ensuring observability and resolving incidents, alerts, and business-as-usual requests
- Enabling business users to query data in natural language through AI-powered interfaces
- Maintaining data dictionaries and delivery methods (SFTP feeds, Google Sheets integrations, etc.)
You will be responsible for keeping the data platform running reliably—the "keep the lights on" function—while also supporting data-driven decision-making across the business. Success is measured by reliable pipelines, trustworthy curated data, maintainable semantic models, safe releases, and effective production support.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or BI Analyst
- Fluent in English
- Ability to work UK working hours
- Solid SQL skills
- Solid Azure Synapse (or Azure Data Factory) skills
- Solid Power BI skills
- Experience in a regulated industry (financial services, healthcare) where audit trails, data accuracy, and compliance implications are critical, and some reports are deadline-sensitive
- Nice to have: Python, Google Cloud Platform, Looker
