Isar Aerospace is a fast-growing space company building modern launch solutions for small and medium-sized satellites into Low Earth Orbit. They are seeking a Senior Data & Backend Software Engineer to join their Data and Analytics team in Ottobrunn, Bavaria.
In this role, you will design, develop, and operate systems that ingest, process, store, and serve data at scale for engineering and operations teams. Your work will enable data-driven decision-making across the company and unlock insights that drive innovation and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building modern, scalable, and high-performance solutions for the engineering and operations platform
- Defining data ingestion, processing, storage, and access patterns to ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability
- Developing data services, APIs, pipelines, and data products that make data available to engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders
- Designing and implementing robust ETL/ELT processes to ingest and transform data from diverse sources
- Contributing to data architecture, modeling, and storage decisions to ensure consistency, availability, low latency, and long-term sustainability
- Ensuring data quality and integrity through validation processes, monitoring, and adherence to data governance principles
- Providing observability and monitoring of platform components for rapid issue detection and resolution
- Authoring and maintaining architectural documentation, technical specifications, and user-facing documentation
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver impactful solutions

Requirements:
- At least 6 years of hands-on experience in one of the following languages: C#, Java, Rust, or Python
- Strong understanding of backend software engineering and data systems
- Experience with data architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipeline development
- Familiarity with data quality, governance, and monitoring practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
