Salary: USD 230,000 - 270,000 / annual
Retell AI is building the next generation of voice AI for enterprise customer experience, with customers including CVS/Aetna, American Airlines, Lenovo, and Grab. The company has scaled to $80M ARR with a team of 50, is backed by Y Combinator and Alt Capital, and is valued at over $1.5B. Retell is now hiring its first Senior Counsel to build the legal function from the ground up.
In this role, you will report directly to the founder and serve as the primary legal partner for enterprise sales. You will own the full lifecycle of enterprise contracting—from MSAs and DPAs to BAAs and order forms—with a focus on speed and minimal reliance on outside counsel. Your key responsibilities include:
- Close enterprise agreements quickly by building contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and turnaround SLAs that keep sales moving without legal bottlenecks
- Set Retell's legal position on voice AI-specific issues: call recording consent, TCPA compliance, AI disclosure requirements, and customer use-case reviews
- Own platform terms of service, acceptable use policy, privacy policy, and management of outside counsel spend
- Provide clear, non-legal explanations of legal issues to cross-functional teams
Retell values judgment that balances legal risk with deal velocity, precision in contract redlines, and the ability to find paths to "yes" rather than reasons to say "no." You'll work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment where you're building a legal function from scratch, not inheriting legacy processes.
The company offers relocation support and is open to sponsoring work authorization (H-1B, TN, L-1, E-3, F-1 OPT/CPT).
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have:
- JD and active US bar membership in California
- 6+ years of commercial or technology transactions experience, OR 4+ years in a tech transactions group at a top law firm
Nice to have:
- Experience with privacy and AI regulation (GDPR, CCPA, EU AI Act)
- Background in telecom, TCPA, or healthcare (BAA) matters
