Kong, an AI Connectivity Company, is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel to join its commercial legal team as an early member. You will serve as a trusted strategic partner to Kong's Americas East revenue team, responsible for supporting the company's strategic sales growth in the region. In this role, you will draft, structure, and negotiate customer contracts with major brands across financial services, technology, e-commerce, and other industries. You will play a primary role supporting Kong's US federal government customers. You will assess legal and business risks, make sound decisions, and provide advice on privacy, security, open-source software, intellectual property, and other commercial matters. You will also assist with developing Kong's positions on artificial intelligence as it relates to customer infrastructure. Key responsibilities include leading complex SaaS and on-premises commercial negotiations, serving as a trusted advisor to the Americas sales team (primarily US East), reviewing and drafting commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations impacting SaaS and on-premises offerings (including AI, IP, privacy, security, and government contracting), partnering with Finance and Revenue Operations on contract close processes, and providing general commercial legal advice to internal teams. You will report to Kong's Sr. Director, Head of Global Commercial Legal. The position is based in one of four locations: New York, Chicago, Austin TX, or Toronto. REQUIREMENTS: - Law degree and member in good standing of applicable state bar or eligible to be registered as in-house counsel - Minimum 7–10 years of experience practicing law in both private practice and in-house settings, preferably with late-stage private and/or early-stage public technology companies - Demonstrated experience negotiating and closing complex SaaS and software contracts with large, sophisticated customers - Experience with federal government procurement and customers - Working knowledge of intellectual property, data governance, and information security/privacy matters - Collaborative mindset and ability to build strong professional relationships - Strong judgment and attention to detail with ability to view legal issues within business context - High professional and personal standards with commitment to inclusiveness
