Metropolis is building AI-powered infrastructure for the Recognition Economy, transforming how physical spaces (parking, retail, hospitality) operate through computer vision and intelligent systems. As a Senior Core Engineer, you will architect and scale the core backend systems that power thousands of smart spaces globally, bridging edge hardware (Nvidia Jetson/Orin fleets, custom Linux/Yocto builds) with cloud environments (AWS, Kubernetes).
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and scale high-performance microservices and edge platform services, primarily in Go
- Own critical systems spanning edge hardware fleets through cloud services, ensuring reliability and performance at scale
- Drive system reliability, memory/performance optimizations, and build comprehensive observability pipelines (metrics, structured logging, real-time alerts)
- Lead architectural design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the US and internationally
- Mentor fellow engineers and leverage modern AI development tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, agentic workflows) to accelerate development and system analysis
- Diagnose deep stability issues and memory/latency bottlenecks in production systems
You will work in an AI-first engineering culture with access to cutting-edge tools and the opportunity to deliver real-world impact across a global platform.
The role requires 3+ days per week in the Tel Aviv office to foster collaboration and innovation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field
- 6+ years of experience building complex, high-scale backend or distributed systems
- Primary backend production experience in Go, C++, Java, or similar languages
- Proven ability to reason about complex system behavior, design modular interfaces, and build for long-term scalability
- Hands-on experience diagnosing deep stability issues and memory/latency bottlenecks
- Experience building telemetry using Prometheus, Fluent Bit, or similar tools
- Solid experience with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, gRPC, and messaging technologies (Kafka, MQTT)
- Demonstrated ability to jump into unfamiliar codebases and deliver production-ready solutions quickly
- Experience leveraging modern AI tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) and agentic workflows
PLUS (not required):
- Experience with Nvidia Jetson or Intel edge devices
- Linux internals and custom OS builds (Yocto, Ubuntu)
- Real-time video processing pipelines, RTSP/SRTP streams, or GStreamer
- AI applications, RAG pipelines, vector databases (USearch, Faiss), or agent protocols (MCP, A2A)
