Flexport is a global commerce platform that moves over $19B of merchandise across 112 countries annually. The company is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Security Engineer to join the Platform, Security & Infrastructure (PSI) team in Amsterdam.
This role focuses on building security guardrails and tooling that hundreds of engineers rely on daily, rather than compliance or audit work. You'll work on a genuinely heterogeneous infrastructure spanning three continents with hundreds of services, carrier integrations, and customs systems—making multi-account architecture and cross-border data handling real engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Guardrails: Design and review cloud security architecture for AWS and Kubernetes, including account structure, network segmentation, workload identity, and secure-by-default patterns. Drive remediation at the source by fixing Terraform modules and patterns rather than addressing findings one ticket at a time.
Kubernetes & Workload Security: Harden the Kubernetes platform through pod security, service mesh and network policy, secrets management, and supply-chain controls (image provenance and signing). Partner with platform engineers to ensure new services inherit secure defaults.
Policy & Automation: Build and maintain policy-as-code and infrastructure-as-code scanning that blocks risky patterns in CI/CD. Write production code in Go or Python shipped through the same CI/CD pipeline as the rest of engineering.
Partnership: Serve as the local technical voice on cloud and infrastructure security for Amsterdam engineering teams while partnering closely with the US-based cloud security team.
Work Environment: In Amsterdam, you'll come to the office 3 times per week for collaboration and shipping. The team stays closely aligned with coworkers across continents and has access to latest hardware, software, and frontier AI models.
Requirements:
- Typically 5–8 years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or platform security engineering with hands-on AWS and Kubernetes work
- Proficiency in at least one compiled language (Go or similar) and one scripting language (Python or similar)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar) and GitOps delivery models—changes shipped through code review, not manual steps
- Working knowledge of IAM and least-privilege design across cloud and container environments
Nice to Have:
- Cloud security posture tooling experience (Wiz, Orca, Prisma, or similar)
- Software supply-chain security experience (SLSA, artifact signing, provenance)
- Familiarity with EU data-residency and cross-border data-handling considerations
- Multi-cloud experience
